María Clara Angulo Cantore was born in Córdoba, Argentina, on the last day of spring in 1988.
At just 3 years old, she learned to play the guitar and sing from her father, who gave her the chance to learn music in what became her first school: guitar jam sessions and musical gatherings at home.
There she gradually learned the popular songbook of the Americas, which to this day remains her main source of inspiration and experimentation.
At 7 she began formal studies at conservatories, first violin, then saxophone, and finally, after finishing school, she went on to study composition at the National University of Córdoba and later in Mannheim (Germany). The written-tradition music of the academy gradually learned to blend with the oral-tradition music of her family settings.
In 2013 she began making her way with her own songs and her guitar. In 2016 she added the bass to complement her concerts. On this instrument she developed her own way of interpreting popular music and expressing herself with a unique and highly original identity. Using her 5-string bass, she went viral online with versions of classics such as Mediterráneo by Serrat and Puente by Cerati.
The miles she has traveled with her music gave Clara a vision of music as a tool for social transformation, capable of transcending differences and igniting networks of community collaboration.
Clara travels the world through a new way of conceiving folk-rooted music, with the bass as a solo instrument, creating encounters in cultural spaces where local artists take part, recognizing oral traditions and connecting them with music.
Her concerts feature talented guests, with whom a space for spontaneous creation emerges, improvising over popular music. This makes each of her live performances a unique and magnetic experience in which musicians and audience alike take part in the presence of living music.
Cantore is president of the Fundación por la Ciencia (Argentina), which has driven initiatives such as Música por la Ciencia, a project that uses art and science to create new languages that help build innovative ways of sharing knowledge. This was a program on Argentine public TV until 2023, when she moved to Galicia, where she produced Regreso.
She is currently working on the Armonautas project in collaboration with Raíces, the network of Argentine scientists around the world, and Argentine diplomatic missions.
She has performed at international festivals including Cosquín en Japón (Fukushima, Japan), Karneval der Kulturen (Berlin, Germany), Barnasants (Barcelona, Spain), Cantares (Mexico City, Mexico), and Hollywood Forever (Los Angeles, USA).
Clara has released six albums: Mentiras Criollas (2011), Ser Tiempo (2013), Calma (2016), Entre algarroba y durazno (2020), La música del vacío (2022), and Regreso (2025).
